Thomas Tuttle (1920-1993)
In this edition of our CEO Spotlight series, we pay tribute to Thomas Tuttle, a visionary leader and integral part of Tuttle Construction’s history. Join us as we explore the life and achievements of this remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on our company and the Lima community.
Born and raised in Allen County, Thomas Tuttle was a proud native. After graduating from Lima Central High School, he pursued his passion for learning by earning a degree in Economics from Oberlin College in 1942. Seeking further education, Thomas attended West Point, where he obtained degrees in both military and engineering disciplines. Though he resigned from his military commission, Thomas continued to serve his country in Frankfort, Germany, and Paris, France.
Returning to Lima, Thomas embarked on a new venture by establishing Tuttle Lumber, his very own lumber company. Eventually, he sold the business and joined his father’s construction company, H.U. Tuttle & Son, Inc., where he made significant contributions. In 1968, he assumed the role of president, taking the company to new heights under his visionary leadership.
Tom possessed a remarkable talent for organization and coordination, complemented by a deep understanding of economics and business. His passion for serving the Lima community shone through his involvement in various organizations, including the YMCA, where he served as president, director, and trustee. He actively contributed to the Chamber of Commerce and played an instrumental role in the United Fund Drives, among many other endeavors.
Thomas Tuttle’s legacy extends far beyond Tuttle Construction. His visionary leadership, dedication to the community, and vast knowledge impacted the lives of many. Today, we honor his contributions and commemorate the profound impact he had on our company and the Lima community.
